SWEDISH ROYAL FAMILY AT THE OPENING OF THE PARLIAMENTARY SESSION

Swedish Royal Family attended traditional ceremonies for the Opening of the Parliament. The Parliament is the national legislature and the supreme decision-making body of Sweden.

Service at Stockholm Cathedral

In the morning Swedish Royal Family, King Carl XVI Gustaf, Queen Silvia, Crown Princess Victoria, Prince Daniel, Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia began the day attending a church service with members of the Parliament at The Stockholm Cathedral (Swedish: Storkyrkan).

On the church stairs, Speaker of the Riksdag Andreas Norlén, Clerk Hans Ulfvebrand, and Cathedral Chaplain Kristina Ljunggren welcomed the Royal Family.

Music was performed by Cathedral organist Mattias Wager as well as the Navy’s music choir under the direction of Cathedral Office Gary Graden.

The Royal Family, Parliament Speaker Andreas Norlén, Clerkn Hans Ulfvebrand and Cathedral Chaplain Kristina Ljunggren.



Opening of the 2019-2020 Riksdag Session

After the church service Swedish Royal Family went horse-drawn carriage to The Parliament House (Swedish: Riksdagshuset).

On the stairs King Carl XVI Gustaf, Queen Silvia, Crown Princess Victoria, Prince Daniel, Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia were welcomed by Speaker of the Riksdag Andreas Norlén.

Opening ceremony in the Chamber

Inside the Parliament House, King Carl XVI Gustaf and family greeted Prime Minister Stefan Löfven and the Vice Presidents.

The ceremony in the Chamber began with the Members of Parliament and the other guests singing the Kungssången (English: The King’s Song), a Swedish royal anthem.

At the opening the music was performed by singer Anna Larsson.

The Speaker then requested that King Carl XVI Gustaf declared the Riksdag session open. The King delivered a speech.

This year program, music, food and decor were inspired by Swedish Provinces of the Härjedalen, Medelpad, Hälsingland, Dalarna and Gästrikland.



Performance in Stockholm Concert Hall

Swedish Royal Family attended a performance at The Stockholm Concert Hall (Swedish: Stockholms konserthus) on the occasion of the Annual Parliament Opening.

Members of Parliament also attended the concert.
