SUSSEX ROYAL TOUR AFRICA – DAY 1

Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex and their five-month-old son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor are currently on a ten-day tour to Africa – from Monday, September 23rd until Wednesday, October 2nd. 

They will visit South Africa, specifically Cape Town and Johannesburg. Prince Harry will travel alone to Botswana, Malawi and Angola.

Monday, September 23rd

Duke and Duchess of Sussex visit Justice Desk

Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex visited a Justice Desk initiative in Nyanga township, in Cape Town, South Africa. The Justice Desk initiative teaches children about their rights and provides self-defence classes and female empowerment training to young girls in the community.

The Duchess of Sussex gave a speech saying: “You have welcomed us into this community, have been open and honest with us, both about the dangers women and children face, and about how you are addressing them.”

The Duke of Sussex also gave a speech saying: “We are so incredibly grateful to be able to listen and learn from you about the issues that define your daily lives in these communities. And that’s what this is, a community.”

Duke and Duchess of Sussex visit District Six Museum and Homecoming Centre

Prince Harry and The Duchess of Sussex then tour the District Six Museum to learn about the work to reunite members of the community forcibly relocated during the apartheid era.

District Six Museum is a museum in the former inner-city residential area and, District Six, in Cape Town, South Africa in an old Methodist church.

District Six Foundation was founded in 1989 and the museum in 1994, as a memorial to the forced movement of 60,000 inhabitants of various races in District Six during Apartheid in South Africa in the 1970s.

Harry and Meghan took part in a community cooking session with former residents of District Six at the nearby Homecoming Centre.

The District Six Homecoming Centre was built to provide former residents with a meeting place to share memories and cook together.
