Queen Máxima paid a working visit to the Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC), in response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) on May 20.
Her Majesty visited the Department of Medical Microbiology, which focuses on research into both vaccines and antivirals to combat the spread of the coronavirus and treat infection.
During the working visit, virologists talk about their work in the laboratory. Researchers are also demonstrating an electron microscope that shows the coronavirus and damage caused by the virus in a cell.
Queen Máxima will speak to experts from universities and relevant organizations about the current state of research in vaccines and antivirals in the Netherlands.
Through telephone calls and, if possible, working visits, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima inform themselves about the consequences of the corona outbreak and express their support and appreciation for the efforts of so many the fight against the pandemic. Measures are taken in consultation with the organizations involved to allow the working visits to take place.

The Queen wore white trousers and white blouse with suede cloak from Massimo Dutti, a Spanish clothing chain. For accessories, she opted for white clutch by Sophie Habsburg and beige espadrilles.
