QUEEN MÁXIMA OPENED THEATER ZUIDPLEIN

Queen Máxima attended the opening of the new building of Theater Zuidplein in Rotterdam, Netherlands on September 16, 2020.

In addition to the theater, there is also a branch of the Rotterdam Library in the building. Together they offer a diverse range of theater, art, literature, education and information.

The original theater opened in 1954 as the Groote Schouwburg and was renamed Zuidplein after its mayor renovation in 1978.

In 2018, the renovation of Zuidplein theater began. The new building was designed by architectural firm De Zwarte Hond.

During the opening, Queen Máxima watched a dance and music performance. The Queen unveiled a plaque with which the teather was officially opened

The Queen was given a tour of the new theater building by theater Director Emmelien Matthijsse. Various short theater productions were shown and she spoke with the makers and those involved about their productions, the connection with the city and the consequences of the corona virus outbreak for their activities and the theater. ⠀
