QUEEN MÁXIMA ATTENDED THE START OF MUSIC TRAINING AGREEMENT

Her Majesty Queen Máxima, as Honorary President of Méér Muziek in de Klas (English: More Music in the Classroom), attended the start of the Music Training Agreement on October 7, 2020.

The meeting took place in TivoliVredenburg with a live stream for online attendees and a limited group in the room. The TivoliVredenburg is a contemporary music complex located in Utrecht, Netherlands.

More Music in the Classroom provides structural music education for all primary school children in the Netherlands.

Thirty-seven parties participate in the Music Training Agreement, including the PO Council, the Dutch Association of Orchestras and the Association of Dutch Music Venues and Festivals.

In this agreement, conservatories will train teachers of colleges in the Netherlands on a national collaboration of twelve years.

The aim is to work towards sustainable and high-quality music education in teacher training courses, so teachers are well equipped to provide music education in primary education.

During the meeting, directors of conservatories and teacher training colleges discussed the importance of the agreement for the longer term.

Singer-songwriters Ilse Delange and Hannah Mae and winner of the Princess Christina Competition 2020, Matthijs van Delft, talked about the role music played in their primary school days.

Subsequently, various parties involved in the Music Training Agreement spoke about the sustainability and quality of music education.

Finally, Queen Máxima unveiled a video projection on the facade of TivoliVredenburg of the online campaign I AM FOR #meermuziekindeklas, in which musical photos from primary schools are posted.
