QUEEN MÁXIMA DELIVERS THE OPENING SPEECH ONLINE AT THE ASEAN SUMMIT
Queen Máxima of the Netherlands delivers the opening speech online at the ASEAN Women Leaders’ Summit on November 12, on the theme of Women Empowerment for Inclusive and Sustainable Development in a Changing World.
The Queen delivers her speech from the Huis ten Bosh Palace in The Hague. The virtual speech takes place on the first day of the 37th ASEAN Summit hosted by Vietnam as Chair of ASEAN this year.
She stressed the importance of good access to and use of financial services to give people better opportunities for economic development.
The current coronavirus crisis shows that inclusive finance is an important instrument for cushioning the socio-economic impact. According to the most recent World Bank Global Findex (2017), in many ASEAN countries, less than 50% of the population owns an account at a formal financial institution.
