The Appeltjes van Oranje awarded three prizes each year to organizations that have a major social impact within a specific theme. This year the theme was “Buddies are you together”. The winners are therefore projects in which people help and continue to help each other, even when the going gets tough.

Obviously, Queen Máxima couldn’t be in all three places at once to congratulate the winners so at the same time of the announce, three congratulatory teams presented the prizes on location to the winners.

Who won The Appeltje van Oranje this year?
To be precise three projects.
Amsterdam’s Villa Pinedo is exceptionally committed to children in divorce situations. These children are linked to an expert (a buddy) who offers a listening ear and gives advice. In this way, the organization is able to reach many children who are struggling with their parents’ divorce. With their digital approach, they know how to appeal to the target group in a good way. Villa Pinedo received the Grote Appeltje for the most impactful project.
Business & Society (Dutch: Bedrijf & Samenleving)
Haarlem Business & Society won an Appeltje with the Time 2 Shine project. The organization links young people with a problem background to a mentor from the business community, who then helps them to find training and housing. Thanks to the buddy construction, young people regain their self-esteem and confidence.
The third Apple is for SOVEE. The Amersfoort refugee organization is mainly committed to those who are single and underage. With the project “My Second Family” these young people are linked to a family. The children can lead a normal family life there and talk about what they have been through. They also learn tasks that can help them build an independent life, such as cooking, homework and arranging insurance.
