Queen Letizia and Carmen Calvo Deputy Prime Minister of Spain and Minister of the Presidency, Relations with the Cortes and Equality.



The exhibition is organized by the National Library and Spanish Cultural Action on occasion of the 200th anniversary of the birth of Concepción Arenal. She was born on 31 January 1820 in Ferrol, a city in the Province of A Coruña in Galicia, on the Atlantic coast in north-western Spain .

Concepción Arenal Ponte (1820 – 1893) was a graduate in law, thinker, journalist, poet and Galician dramatic author within the literary Realism and pioneer in Spanish feminism.

Arenal was the first woman to attend university in Spain and was also a pioneer and founder of the feminist movement in Spain.
