QUEEN LETIZIA AND KING FELIPE VISITED GRAN CANARIA

On September 23, Their Majesties Queen Letizia and King Felipe VI traveled to Gran Canaria to visit the areas affected by the fires of last August. They were accompanied by the Minister of Economy and Business, Nadia Calviño.

Their Majesties attended an informational meeting at the headquarters of the Presidency of the Canary Islands Government where they received the greetings of the representatives of the different emergency, rescue and fire services that participated in the work of assistance and extinguishing the fires.

They were also informed of the impact of fires and after the projection of a video, the meeting ended.

Next, The King and Queen traveled by helicopter to the areas of Tejeda and Valleseco affected by the recent fires on the island of Gran Canaria.

They were received by the Mayors of Tejada and Valleseco, Francisco Juan Perera, and Dámaso Alexis Arencibia, respectively.

Then, The King and The Queen went to the Degollada de las Palomas viewpoint, between Tejeda and Valleseco.

From the viewpoint they visualized the area affected by the fire, receiving explanations from the Mayors of Valleseco and Tejeda.

There King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia received the greeting of representatives of the personnel of the technical bodies and volunteers who collaborate in the assistance and extinction of the fires and held a meeting with the affected neighbors of the municipalities of Tejeda and Valleseco, as well as with others affected by the fires.

The municipalities of Tejeda and Valleseco are the most affected by the fires. The first fire, which began in Artenara on Saturday, August 10, expanded to the municipality of Tejeda, with the residents of the town being evacuated.

On Saturday, August 17, another fire began in the municipality of Valleseco, which also expanded to the town of Tejeda, whose neighbors had to be evacuated again one day after returning to their homes.
