Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II virtually unveiled, from Windsor Castle, a new statue of herself by Australian sculptor Robert Hannaford AM (Member of the Order of Australia).

The Queen’s statue has been installed in the grounds of the Government House in Adelaide, South Australia.

Queen Elizabeth’s virtually unveiled the statue during a video meeting earlier last week with the Governor of South Australia, His Excellency the Honourable Hieu Van Le and the Honorable Steven Marshall MP Premier of South Australia.

“Good morning. Well that’s good morning to me. I don’t know what time of day it is to you!”

The Queen also received an update in the region, including the vaccination rollout to key workers, the response to Covid-19 and the lifting of restrictions in South Australia

Her Majesty also heard from the Governor about the recovery from drought and bushfires in the area at the start of 2020, and from the Premier about how cooperation between health services, police, government – and the resilience of the Australian people – has been instrumental in their frontline response to the pandemic.

For the video call, The Queen wore her Pearl Trefoil Brooch.

The Queen was presented with a scale model of the statue – a ‘maquette’ – at the end of the meeting, which will be sent from South Australia to Her Majesty as a memento.

Her Majesty, as Head of the Commonwealth, has visited Australia 16 times over her reign.
