On Sunday 28 March, King Carl XVI Gustaf held a Council of State, at the Royal Palace of Stockholm, during which the Government was informed that the child, who is seventh in line to the throne, will be called Julian Herbert Folke, and will be known as Julian.
The middle name Folke is one of King Carl XVI Gustaf’s middle names – Carl Gustaf Folke Hubertus – and was the name of the late Folke Bernadotte, Count of Wisborg (grandson of King Oscar II) who in World War II negotiated the release of about 31,000 prisoners from German concentration camps.
Prince Julian has been granted the Duchy of Halland, the former duchy of the late Prince Bertil, uncle to King Carl XVI Gustaf. Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia now live in Prince Bertil’s former home, Villa Solbacken.
