KING PHILIPPE AND QUEEN MATHILDE VISIT THE INSTITUTE OF TROPICAL MEDICINE

On June 23, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde visit the Institute of Tropical Medicine (ITM) in Antwerp, officially known as Prince Leopold Institute of Tropical Medicine, to inquire about the impact of the COVID-19 in Belgium and on African developing countries.

The working visit focused on ITM response to COVID-19, medical services, research projects, training programmes, and the importance of international cooperation.

King Philippe and Queen Mathilde were welcomed by Cathy Berx, Governor of the Province of Antwerp, and Dr Marc-Alain Widdowson, Director of ITM.



The Tropical Institute is an important partner in the fight against coronavirus. Through its specialized medical services, teaching, training and scientific research, the Institute contributes to the development of sustainable solutions, both in Belgium and internationally.

For decades, the Institute has been in the frontline of the fight against global epidemics, including COVID-19. “ITM warmly welcomed their Majesties the King and Queen today. The royal couple showed great interest and appreciation for our efforts around COVID-19,” Dr Marc-Alain Widdowson, Director of ITM said.

Queen Mathilde wore a Natan floral print midi dress. She combines the dress with a yellow peep toe pumps, beige clutch and orange with gold fantasy earrings.
