MAXIMA AND WILLEM-ALEXANDER STATE VISIT TO INDIA – DAY 1

Queen Máxima and King Willem-Alexander are paying a state visit to India at the invitation of President Ram Nath Kovind. The visit is taking place from 14 to 18 October, and include the cities of New Delhi and Mumbai and the state of Kerala.

The state visit focus on such areas as water technology and maritime development, healthcare, sustainable agriculture, social initiatives and cultural heritage. 

Sunday 13 October – New Delhi

The King and Queen of the Netherlands arrived in New Delhi, India on October 13, 2019. Their Majesties where received by dancers at the airport of New Delhi.

King Willem-Alexander was the coPilot during their flight to India.



Monday 14 October – New Delhi

Rashtrapati Bhavan Presidential Palace

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima were warmly welcomed by President Ram Nath Kovind and First Lady Savita Kovind at the Rashtrapati Bhavan Presidential Palace.

Raj Ghat Monument

After the welcome ceremony, Their Majesties strewed flowers at the Raj Ghat monument a memorial dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi.

Meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi

Afterwads, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima attended a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Visit to the Barapullah Drain

In the afternoon the King and Queen visited the Barapullah Drain to mark Dutch-Indian cooperation on water technology and water purification.

Barapullah Drain was cleaned under the Project “Local Treatment of Urban Sewage Streams for Healthy Reuse”.

Dutch and Indian companies contributed to the project by sharing their existing technologies.

Queen Máxima Outfit Details

The Queen wore a new light blue lace dress from Natan with matching hat.

State Banquet at Rashtrapati Bhavan

The first day of the state visit closed with a state banquet at The Rashtrapati Bhavan, the presidential palace, where both President Ramnath Kovind and King Willem-Alexander delivered a speech.

Queen Máxima wore a new gown by Dutch designer Jan Taminiau, The Dutch Diamond Bandeau Tiara (often called The Rose Cut Bandeau), Stuart Tiara Earrings, and the Romanov Pink Diamond and Pearl Corsage.
