QUEEN MATHILDE AND KING PHILIPPE ATTENDED THE CONCERT FÜR JAN VAN EYCK

Queen Mathilde and King Philippe of Belgium attended the concert “Für Jan van Eyck” at the Saint Bavo Cathedral (Dutch: Sint Baafskathedraal) on September 22, 2020 in Ghent, Belgium.

The concert was performed by Collegium Vocale Gent and presented a new musical piece by Estonian composer of classical and religious music Arvo Pärt. Collegium Vocale Gent is Belgian musical ensemble of vocalists and supporting instrumentalists, founded by Philippe Herreweghe in 1970.



Queen Mathilde wore sparkly face mask to match her silver shimmering trouserpants and an elegant white blouse.

The piece was comissioned by the city of Ghent on the occasion of the theme year OMG! Van Eyck.

Estonian composer of classical and religious music Arvo Pärt.



After the concert, Their Majesties posed in front of the Ghent Altarpiece (or the Adoration of the Mystic Lamb, Dutch: Het Lam Gods) by brothers Hubert and Jan van Eyck.

Ghent Altarpiece is a large and complex 15th-century polyptych altarpiece. It was begun circa the mid-1420s and completed by 1432. The altarpiece is considered a masterpiece of European art and one of the world’s treasures.
