Crown Princess Mary of Denmark celebrated the International Day of the Girl Child on October 11, 2019.
In the morning The Crown Princess invited 14-years-old Farzana from Dhaka, Bangladesh to visit her at Amalienborg Palace.
Since Farzana has 11-years-old, she has been volunteering to combat child marriage and girls’ right to attend school.
After their meeting, The Crown Princess and Farzana attended an event organized by PlanBørnefonden, Denmark’s largest privately funded children’s rights organization, at Gasværksvejens Skole in connection with International Day of the Girl Child.
For this engagement Crown Princess Mary wore Prada black coat, Erdem printed blouse, black trousers and Jimmy Choo pumps.
At Gasværksvejens Skole, Crown Princess Mary said: “Today is about giving a voice to those girls who have no opportunity to speak. We need to listen to those girls – not just today – but every day until they can choose freely. Too many places a child’s life is settled when born as a girl or boy. Many millions of girls cannot fulfill their dreams of becoming a police officer, nurse or policymaker.”
This year, the theme is “GirlForce: Unscripted and unstoppable”.
“International Day of the Girl Child is an international observance day declared by the United Nations; it is also called the Day of Girls and the International Day of the Girl. October 11, 2012, was the first Day of the Girl Child. The observation supports more opportunity for girls and increases awareness of gender inequality faced by girls worldwide based upon their gender”.International Day of the Girl Child

“I have a brain, just like any boy. I can think, I can create, I can be whatever I want to be just like a boy. There should be equality. My dream is to be an astronomer because I like space. And an astronaut too. I would be the first woman from Syria to go to the moon.” Bodoor, 17, a refugee in Jordan. #DayoftheGirl #AChildIsAChild © UNICEF/UN0263755/Herwig
