King Harald Has Been Discharged From Hospital

Today, the Royal House of Norway announced that His Majesty King Harald V has been discharged from Oslo University Hospital (Rikshospitalet).

On Friday 25, The King was admitted to the Rikshospitalet for heavy breathing. Norwegian Royal House said King Harald did not have Covid-19.

The King is now on sick leave and resting at the Royal Palace in Oslo (Norwegian: Slottet or Det kingelige slott), while Crown Prince Haakon is regent until Sunday 4th October.

Update!!! October 9

King Harald’s Heart Surgery

On October 9, King Harald underwent a heart operation to replace a heart valve that was operated in 2005. The King arrived at the Oslo University Hospital (Rikshospitalet) on Thursday.

According to the Royal Court of Norway, the surgery this morning was successful and His Majesty’s condition is described as “good”.

The King has been transfered to the Intensive Care Unit for further observation. His Majesty will be on sick leave for the rest of October.

King Harald, 83, was born on 21 February 1937 as the third child and only son of King Olav V and Princess Märtha of Sweden.

He ascended to the throne upon the death of his father King Olav V on 17 January 1991.
