KING FELIPE AND QUEEN LETIZIA VISITED CATALONIA

The Spanish Royal Tour continues, King Felipe and Queen Letizia visited the town of Poblet in Catalonia (Spanish: Cataluña) an autonomous community on the northeastern corner of Spain on July 20.

This royal tour is part of the campaign “Spain for Sure”. The campaign promote tourists to visit Spain after COVID-19 pandemic.

Catalonia is the eleventh autonomous community that the monarchs have visited since they began their tour of Spain on 23 June.



King Felipe and Queen Letizia traveled to Catalonia accompanied by the Minister of Health, Salvador Illa.

Upon their arrival to Catalonia, The King and Queen were received by the delegate of the Government in the Autonomous Community, Teresa Cunillera.

In the town of Poblet, Their Majesties visited The Royal Abbey of Santa Maria de Poblet, where they were welcomed by the abbot of Poblet, the father Octavi Vila, and the prior, father Rafael Barrue.

Next, King Felipe and Queen Letizia accessed to the interior of Royal Abbey. In the “Lagar”, converted into an exhibition hall, they could saw the works of the Catalan painter Josep Guinovart.

The visit continued through the cellar, the cloister, the kitchen, the refectory, the library, the old bedrooms, the Chapter room, the church, the Royal Pantheon, where the royal tombs of the Kings Alfonso I, his son Pedro, are located.

Afterwards, Queen Letizia and King Felipe went to the Gothic rooms, where after receiving the greeting of the director of the Tarradelas Archive, Nuria Gavarró, they toured a sample of a selection of documents from the archive.

Finally to end the visit, Their Majesties accessed the area where the Benedictine community resides, and held a meeting with the monks.
