EMPEROR NARUHITO’S ENTHRONEMENT BANQUET

Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako hosted a Court Banquet at The Tokyo Imperial Palace (Kōkyo) for Members of Royal Families and Heads of State, who traveled to Japan for the Enthronement Ceremony (Sokuirei-Seiden-no-gi) on October 22, 2019.

The event began around 7:20 p.m. at The Seiden Take-no-Ma (Audience Room), where Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako received congratulatory greetings from their guests.

After that, Their Majesties, Royal Guests, Heads of State and other Imperial Family Members moved to The Shunju-no-Ma (Grand Hall), where they were invited to an aperitif before dinner.

Guests were treated to a series of cultural performances including traditional Japanese songs and dance by Members of the Music Department of the Imperial Household Agency.

Royal Guests and Heads of States also take a look at the The Takamikura and The Michodai.



Then, The Emperor and Empress invited their guests to the Homei-den (State Banquet Hall), where a Japanese-style dinner was served.

This is the first of four “Kyoen-no-gi” banquets. The other banquets will take place on Friday, next Tuesday, and next Thursday.
