THE DUCHESS OF CAMBRIDGE SPOKE TO HOLOCAUST SURVIVORS

Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge spoke to Holocaust survivors Zigi Shipper and Manfred Goldberg, and youth ambassadors from the Holocaust Educational Trust, Farah Ali and Maxwell Horner, via video call to mark Holocaust Memorial Day today.

The Duchess talked with Zigi Shipper and Manfred Goldberg, about their experiences and memories of the Holocaust, and of its prevailing impact, and the importance of remembering the atrocities committed during the Holocaust.

“The stories you have shared with me, and your dedication in educating the younger generation about your experiences and the horrors of the Holocaust shows extreme strength and such bravery.”

Her Royal Highnesss also spoke with young ambassadors Farah Ali and Maxwell Horner about the impact of visiting the camps and of their conversations with survivors, and the work that they are carrying out in order to continue to educate their peers about the Holocaust and its contemporary relevance.

The Duchess wore her Simone Rocha earrings and a new grey jumper by Alexander McQueen, along with a new necklace.



Back in 2017, during their visit to Poland and Germany, The Duke and Duchess met Zigi and Manfred at Stutthof Concentration Camp, where 28,000 Jews died.

Zigi and Manfred have known each other since 1944, having met at the Stutthof concentration camp, the first to be built outside German borders and one of the last camps to be liberated in May 1945.

Holocaust Memorial Day commemorates the victims of the Holocaust, the genocide of European Jews by Nazi Germany between 1941 and 1945. 27 January was chosen to commemorate the date that Auschwitz concentration camp was liberated by the Red Army in 1945.
