On March 4th, Crown Princess Mary participated in a roundtable meeting – on ICPD 26 (International Conference on Population and Development) – status of women and girls’ health and rights as a follow-up to the Nairobi Summit held in 2019 .
The meeting, which was partly virtual, took place in the Landsting Hall (Danish: Landstingssalen) at Christiansborg Palace, Copenhagen. The roundtable aimed to discuss the results of the Nairobi Summit and the different strategies to achieve the goal that every girl and woman should have the right to decide over their own bodies, amongst other topics.
The meeting was also attended by, among others, Minister for Development Cooperation and Minister for Nordic Cooperation Flemming Møller Mortensen and Chairman of the SRSR network Karen Ellemann.
At the meeting, the promises from the conference in Nairobi were refreshed, and it was discussed what concrete efforts and strategies should be lifted in the future to achieve the goal of women and girls’ right to decide over their own bodies.
The Crown Princess joined last year the UN Population Fund’s newly established independent ICPD 25 High Level Commission to follow up on the global commitments made at the Nairobi Conference.
ICPD 25 refers to the action plan adopted at the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) in Cairo, Egypt in 1994.
