BELGIAN ROYAL FAMILY VISITS LIMBURG FOR SUMMER PHOTOS

On June 27, Princess Elisabeth, Prince Emmanuel, Prince Gabriel, Princess Eleonore and their parents Queen Mathilde and King Philippe combined a promo for Belgian tourism with their annual summer photo shoot as they toured Bokrijk, a park and museum complex near Genk in the Province of Limburg, Belgium.



Belgian Royals Visit Bokrijk Park

The Belgian Royal Family posed for photos before they took a bike ride through Bokrijk. Today, Tourism Limbourg celebrates 25 years of the network of cycle paths which reaches more than 2000km.

During the visit, the Belgian Royal Family lives the experience “Cycling through Water” in Bokrijk, a unique cycling experience in which people cycle more than 200 meters through a pond. The bike path opened in April 2016 and since then many cyclists and hikers have felt the magic of this place.

According to Time magazine, the “Cycling through Water” cycling experience is one of the top 100 “best places in the world”.

After the experience “Cycling through Water”, the family had lunch at camping site Holsteenbron in Zonhoven.

Belgian Royals Visit Bokrijk Open -Air Museum

King Philippe, Queen Mathilde and their children also visited the Bokrijk Open-Air Museum (Dutch: Openluchtmuseum) which displays a large collection of historical buildings from across Flanders, presenting the history of rural life in Belgium. The domain is 5.5 square kilometres in area and hosts an important botanical garden (arboretum) and Flanders’ largest open-air playground.

In Bokrijk Open-Air Museum are some 30,000 pieces of everyday life from the 17th century to 1950. It has been designed to be interactive and includes staff who take on the roles of people from different periods.
